How much does a solarium or sunroom cost?

A Four Seasons solarium or sunroom may cost slightly more than a similarly-sized conventional addition – but will add much more to your home and quality of family life than just an ordinary room. Any time you want to add space, light, and an airy, open feel to your home, consider a Four Seasons glass room addition.

As to specific costs, there are many variables to be considered before making an estimate — everything from size and style of the room to drainage considerations at the site can affect pricing.

That’s why we offer a free, no-obligation, on-site design consultation. Find out more »

How long will it take to complete my addition?

Timing depends on the size and complexity of your sunroom or solarium — but typically, your glass room addition is completed within a few weeks, from start to finish.

Four Seasons uses modular construction and established designs, so all of our glass room additions are completed much faster than any ordinary addition would be. We understand that you’ll be living at home while we work, so we will complete the project as quickly, efficiently, quietly, and unobtrusively as possible.

Can I really use a sunroom year-round in Canada?
Doesn’t it cost a fortune to heat it and cool it?

Yes, you can use a Four Seasons Sunroom 365 days a year, even in Canada. And no, it won’t cost a fortune to keep it comfortable.

Our patented CONSERVAGLASS™ technology is extremely energy-efficient, so your heating and cooling bills should be comparable to what they would be if you added an ordinary room.

How much space do I need to build a glass room addition or solarium?

Additions can be virtually any size, from a compact balcony to a sweeping backyard conservatory.

What do I do about getting local building permits?

Our local franchisees handle all phases of construction — including the permit acquisition process.

Do solariums or sunrooms leak?

Four Seasons Sunrooms are guaranteed to be leak-free.

Can I open the windows in a sunroom or solarium?

Any of our glass additions can be outfitted with your choice of windows, doors — even skylights. Windows are outfitted with easy-moving crank handles and dual lever safety locks for superior security. Doors are available as sliders, French doors, or single swing doors.

What’s the difference between and “Sun and Stars” room and a “Sun and Shade” room?

Sun and Stars rooms have a glass roof. Sun and Shade rooms have a solid roof.

While all Four Seasons glass room additions are available with glass roofs, you can choose a solid roof (with or without skylights) only in our cathedral ceiling models and straight eave models. Solid roofs are not available in conservatories or curved eave designs.

How do I clean the special “CONSERVAGLASS™”?

Our CONSERVAGLASS™ is wonderfully low-maintenance, thanks to our patented KleenCoat II finish. This exterior surface treatment repels water, which sheets off and leaves a spot-free finish.

The interior surface is simply cleaned with regular glass cleaner. For best results, of course, plan to include your sunroom in your regular “spring cleaning” routine.

Will my upholstery and carpet fade from all the sunlight?

CONSERVAGLASS™ helps protect your furniture and carpeting by blocking up to 90% of harmful UV light. Your upholstery should fade less than it would in a conventional room by a conventional window.

Do Four Seasons Sunrooms come with a warranty?

Yes. Click here to read the details of our Lifetime Warranty.

What about my plants?

Photoactive radiation, the type conducive to photosynthesis, occurs entirely within the visible spectrum of the sun's rays.

CONSERVAGLASS™ allows high transmission of the visible or “healthy” rays and rejects the excessive solar heat transmitted by ordinary glass.

CONSERVAGLASS™ provides plants with the necessary radiation for healthy growth while preventing scorching in summer and thermal shock in winter.

Will it be too hot?

This can be a problem in most sunrooms where glass represents over 90% of the wall and roof. Proper glass is, therefore, a must when designing a livable sunroom or solarium. With Four Seasons’ exclusive roof CONSERVAGLASS™ over 85% of the sun's radiant heat is reflected away, allowing a mere 15% of the heat to penetrate the sunroom.

In contrast, Low-E argon reflects only 18% and allows a whopping 82% of the sun's radiant heat to enter. Imagine the effect on a hot summers day after only a couple of hours.

Think about the last time you left your car in the hot sun with all the windows closed and after only a few hours it was over 60°C. That’s exactly what you can expect with a Low-E product.

Will it be too cold?

This can also be a problem. If the glass quality is not very high, you can expect to have a cold sunroom. The better the insulation in the glass, the warmer the sunroom will be. Insulation is measured in terms of R-value or resistance to the transfer of heat.

» A single pane of glass has an R-value of R.9.
» A Thermopane, Thermal Glass or Insulated Glass has an R-value of R2.
» Low-E is R2.6, Low-E with Argon is R2.9.
» Four Seasons CONSERVAGLASS™ has an R-value of R4, double that of Thermal Glass, effectively cutting your heat loss in half.

The side benefit to better insulated glass is that the inner glass surface temperature is warmer. The warmer the surface, the less chance for condensation and air currents (drafts) to form.
